Pain is a common health complaint — more than 20% of Americans have a chronic pain condition. At her practice in Pacifica, California, Madison Fandel, ND, uses regenerative medicine therapies, including prolotherapy and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections, in pain management programs. If you have chronic pain that’s disrupting your life, call Dr. Fandel or schedule a consultation online today to learn about your treatment options.
As a naturopathic doctor and regenerative medicine specialist, Dr. Fandel provides an innovative approach to pain management. She offers cutting-edge treatments that address the underlying conditions causing your pain instead of relying on medications and treatments that simply mask your symptoms.
Dr. Fandel offers prolotherapy and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections to reduce or eliminate your pain.
Prolotherapy involves an injection of a natural irritant into damaged soft tissue. The irritant triggers your natural healing response and accelerates your recovery.
PRP injections flood your damaged tissue with proteins and growth factors that your body needs to repair and generate cells.
She might combine these treatments with physical therapy, nutritional changes or supplements, and other complementary therapies.
Dr. Fandel offers pain management programs for a wide range of conditions, including:
Dr. Fandel can also use pain management treatments to reduce your pain and speed up your healing process after surgery.
Dr. Fandel performs a thorough exam before recommending any treatment. She reviews your medical history, symptoms, and your desired results. She also uses diagnostic tests to examine your body and determine if her approach to pain management is right for you.
You need to prepare for prolotherapy by ensuring that you’re properly hydrated and eating nutritious food on the day preceding and of your treatment. When you have your prolotherapy procedure, Dr. Fandel cleanses your skin and provides a topical numbing cream before using a long, slender needle to inject the irritant into your damaged tissue.
Prolotherapy usually takes around an hour. Most patients have a series of 4-6 treatments, with around four weeks between each appointment.
PRP begins with a blood draw. Then Dr. Fandel creates your PRP serum by processing your blood sample in the Harvest SmartPrep® Multicellular Processing System or the APEX Biologix’s PRP Concentration System.
When your serum is ready, Dr. Fandel injects it into your injured or damaged tissue. Most patients have a series of 2-3 treatments around 8-12 weeks apart.
