A regenerative injection technique that utilizes a natural substance, dextrose, to calm inflamed nerves and release tight muscles. This procedure decreases pain and improves function and mobility.

Dextrose binds to pre synaptic calcium channels and inhibits the release of substance P and CGRP,  this decreases neurogenic inflammation. Allowing for normal flow of nerve growth factor, so the nerve can repair and pain will decrease.

Treatment can help with:

  • Chronic muscle pain
  • Acute muscle pain
  • Scarring
  • Chronic musculoskeletal inflammation
  • Trigger points

What areas can be treated:

  • Most areas of the body that have pain

How long does it last?

Pain is often complex and multifactorial. The underlying cause of the pain generator must be addressed, perinural injections can lead to a significant reduction in pain for a period of time.

How many treatments are required?

The number of treatments will vary according to the degree of the condition, the desired degree of correction and the individual’s response to treatment. Most people see results immediately, results after the first few injections last one to two weeks. Multiple treatments are required spaced 1-2 weeks apart until the desired pain reduction is achieved.

What are the side effects and risks involved?

Because dextrose is natural and the needles being used are very small this procedure is associated with little to no risks or side effects. Extreme care is taken to clean your skin prior to the procedure.

Redness, moderate swelling, and discomfort in the treatment area are common, these usually resolve after 24-48 hours after the treatment.

It is advised to avoid strenuous activity for 24-48 hours after treatment.

How long does it last?

Pain is often complex and multifactorial. The underlying cause of the pain generator must be addressed, along with contributing factors such as muscle tone, imbalanced hormones, diet, lifestyle, etc. Prolotherapy can lead to a significant reduction in pain for a long period of time.

How many treatments are required?

The response to treatment varies on the patient and their own health and healing. Some patients report a decrease in pain shortly after the initial treatment. Pain typically returns 2-3 weeks later. After each series of injections, it takes longer for the pain to return, until eventually the pain resolves. A series of 4-6 treatments, spaced 4 weeks apart is needed.

What are the side effects and risks involved?
